The Union Catalogue of Books Printed in German Speaking Countries in the 17th Century (VD 17) is a retrospective national bibliography for the period 1601 to 1700. Included are all German-language items as well as any work printed and published in the German speaking countries of the time, regardless of its language. VD 17 is supported by the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin – Preußischer Kulturbesitz, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek München, and Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel. The Report of the Round Table "Zur Zukunft der nationalbibliographischen Verzeichnisse (VD)" held by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the VD 17 in June 2021 has been published in the current issue of Zeitschrift für Bibliothekswese und Bibliographie.
Currently VD 17 lists 310.597 items (22.03.2023).
